The Chair by Haim Watzman
Sukkot, October 3 and 5, 2023
at the Hebrew Union College
In partnership with the Jerusalem Theater's Mikro Theatre Troupe
Theater and Theology is delighted to partner with the Jerusalem Theatre's Mikro Theatre Troupe to premiere The Chair by Haim Watzman during Mikro's Sukkot 2023 Jerusalem Theater Arts Festival.
The Chair is an adaptation and commentary on the book of Hosea with a wry take on certain aspects of modern life in Israel.
We are planning to hold a staged reading on Sukkot, 2023, in the beautiful grounds of the Hebrew Union College for about 40 audience members only. The event comprises a half-day program including an experiential Bibliodramatic study of the book of Hoshea, an actors-and-audience Sukkah picnic, the staged reading, and then a discussion with the audience. Together, the playwright, director, and audience members will workshop this relevant and impactful play and help shape it for its Spring 2024 theater premiere. The play includes adult themes and content (as does the book of Hoshea itself) and is not suitable for children.

Miracle on S.Division Street
by Tom Dudzick
Everyone knows that in 1942, the Blessed Virgin Mother herself appeared to Clara Nowak's husband in his humdrum barbershop in Buffalo, NY. Don't they?
A prickly-sweet comedy about the struggle to be faithful to both tradition and modernity.
